rough road

Day 3 of our vacay started off better as it seemed like our van issue had resolved itself. We did have a slight issue about an hour into our 3 hour drive but after a fill up of premium gas, it seemed to be fine again.

Today's agenda included a visit to Amish Country, Pennsylvania. We rode a buggy:

Tried on Amish hats:

Toured the farmer's market:

and ate at a family style Amish Feast:

with other families also having the feast. This couple was visiting Amish Country from New Jersey:

The Amish fest was delicious and there was so much food. One of us ate a little bit too much and before we hit Maryland had threw it all up all over the van! It was a stinky ride down the freeway until we finally reached our hotel!

Fortunately, Unfortunately

Fortunately, we started day two of our family road trip vacation right as scheduled.
Unfortunately, I made a terrible error when planning and bought tickets for a musical on 8/1/2015 instead of 8/8/2015 and ticketmaster refused to exchange them.

Fortunately, because we are doing a large loop on our road trip, we were passing near where the musical was and so Conrad suggested going to the actual box office to try and exchange them in person.
Unfortunately, it was rush hour and it took almost an hour longer to get to the theatre.

Fortunately, I was able to exchange the tickets!!
Unfortunately, I had already listed them on Stub hub to try and sell them and I didn't have wifi to remove the listing.

Fortunately, we were able to stop at McDonalds on the way out of town and remove the tickets so they wouldn't sell to anyone who would find out the tickets were now invalid.
Unfortunately, even though we saved almost $200 by exchanging the tickets, we spent almost 3 1/2 hours doing it.

Fortunately, we were on the road again.
Unfortunately, after another few hours the "check engine light" came on and the van seemed to lose power.

Fortunately, we made it to a town in Ohio and a service centre was open.
Unfortunately, their service mechanic was gone for the day.

Fortunately, he was able to do a safety check and he did it for free.
Unfortunately, he didn't find anything wrong even though the light was on.

Fortunately, he was able to send us to another place.
Unfortunately, they couldn't find anything wrong either.

Fortunately, he found a Toyota dealership that was open.
Unfortunately, they said it would cost $100 to check our van.

Fortunately, they were open (they said it was their last late Thursday and next month they would be closed on Thursday evenings!)
Unfortunately, there were some people ahead of us to be checked.

Fortunately, they had a nice waiting room with free wifi.

Unfortunately, every minute that ticked by meant that our walking tour and incline ride were becoming an impossibility.

Fortunately, they did the check and nothing seemed wrong. The mechanic guessed it  may have been something in the gas and that diluting it with premium would probably fix it.
Unfortunately, we had spent over 3 hours in Ohio and only saw the inside of three service waiting rooms.

Fortunately, the $100 bill that they quoted was only $59.
Fortunately, they didn't take advantage of travelling tourists and make up things to be fixed.
Fortunately, we were back on the road and the van seemed to be fine.

Fortunately, even though we missed an evening plan of sightseeing, we still arrived at our scheduled hotel destination that evening.

We ended the day with the "fortunately" winning against "unfortunately"

Beach Day!

I LOVE the people I work with! Today 5 of us...and our 8 + 6/9  kids soaked up the gorgeous hot day at the beach.

Kiandra brought a friend and Kezia brought her babysitting charge (O's older brothers are at camp this week and so that made it easier for Kezia to come along) and Kaden had a friend from his grade 8 class and 2 guys Kezia's age to hang with. The weather could not have been better! Even at 6:30pm, it still felt warm.

These are the days...

Table for 10

Family friends from out of town joined us for supper this evening:

These guys had so much fun together:

It's hard to believe that Caleb and Kaden are the same age as when their Dads became close friends!

Another Show...

Yesterday, Kezia went to her friend's cabin for the weekend. This afternoon, Conrad took Kaden, his Dad, and our 4 nephews to a rodeo so it was just Kiandra and I at home. I did some errands in the morning with Conrad, and some shopping with Kiandra in the afternoon. She had an early evening show with the theatre festival and then invited me to a late show because she had one more free show to use on her performer's pass. Kiandra treated me to ice cream before the show:

and then we went to the show:

It's been fun hanging out with Kiandra during this theatre festival. Kiandra has mentioned purchasing a multi-show pass next year if she isn't in a show...maybe I'll have to get one too to go to more shows with her when the festival season comes next summer.

Friday 5

Five Current Favs:

4. Wareneki (blueberry perogies)

5. This Song. (I've been spending lots of time in the van driving kids from one thing to another and back again and this song plays often on the radio)

Late Night Show

Kiandra has been enjoying her free show passes and invited me to go with her this evening to see a show. It was a little scary because it was pouring rain and thunder and lightning but the show was pretty good.

It was fun to hang out with Kiandra with the small crowd who braved the storm to come out to the show.
